Turkey Kheema / flavorful minced turkey for your salads, sandwich or wrap or taco filling

Not sure, if you still have some turkey left over, but this is a great dish that you can try with your leftover turkey meat or for another occasion, when you feel like cooking minced / ground turkey. This is an easy, flavorful dish that you can either serve over a bed of greens as a salad on a lazy Sunday afternoon or prepare it in advance to use as a filling for your lettuce cups/wraps, whole grain wraps, tacos or sandwiches to pack in your lunch box! Either way, you might enjoy this dish!

A low calorie, protein packed minced turkey paired with bell pepper can provide a good amount of vitamin C, B-complex vitamins, selenium and some iron.

Ingredients
  1. 0.5 lb, about 250 gms minced / ground turkey (lean)
  2. 1/2 yellow onion (US) = 1 red onion (India)
  3. 1 large bell pepper, diced to small pieces, 1 cm or so
  4. generous amount of cilantro leaves & stems, chopped
  5. 1 1/2 tbsp oil
  6. 2 garlic cloves, minced
  7. 1 " ginger piece or 2 tsp ginger paste
  8. 1/2 tsp red chili powder, more or less per your preference
  9. 1/2 tsp garam masala
  10. 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  11. A pinch of turmeric, optional
  12. Salt to taste
Instructions
  1. Heat oil in a steel pan.
  2. Saute the onion till it begins to caramelize.
  3. Then add the minced turkey (leftover turkey meat), garlic, ginger, cilantro, and all the dry spices. Mix well and cover to let the turkey cook (~10-15 mins) or just saute for a minute if you are using cooked leftovers.
  4. Add the bell peppers and salt, and mix.
  5. Serve over a bed of salad greens, or on a whole grain toast, or add as a filling for your lettuce cups/ wraps or whole grain wraps or sandwiches or tacos!

  2. Cilantro stems are packed with flavor, so don't discard them!
  3. The slightly higher amount of fat in this dish will provide satiety - you will feel full for a longer time.
  4. If you use leftover turkey meat or the non-lean version of ground turkey, then the dish may contain higher saturated fat and cholesterol.
